Advisory Board Progress Report (January – August 2025)
1. Healthy Kids Program
- Oral Health Education (OHE) & Fluoride Applications: Implemented across 6 schools/centers.
- Level 1 Treatments: 3678 children received care at PIO, Chaktomuk, Haggove, Krousar Thmey PP, KAD, Borey School, and Krousar Thmey, Chbaompov).
- Level 2 Treatments: 522 children.
- Level 3 Treatments: 493 children.
- School Coverage: 11 primary schools completed.
- Ivoclar Partnership: Completed 3 schools, with 2 additional schools scheduled (PIO in October and Rabbit School in November).
- Krousar Thmey (Blind & Deaf Children): Provided essential materials for Level 1 treatment at 4 provincial schools; in Phnom Penh, all treatment levels were provided.
- Referral Services: Children and caregivers from Borey Center were referred to the UP Dental Clinic for treatment.
2. Cambodia Smile Program (January – July 2025)
- Cases Treated:
- Kampong Speu: 3,348 cases
- Kampong Chhnang: 3,360 cases
- Siem Reap: 2,215 cases
- Total: 8,913 cases
- Supportive Measures:
- Distributed motivational gifts every six months to encourage health center staff.
- Supplied fluoride to focal points during medical stock shortages.
- Followed up on ToT activities in less-active health centers.
3. SDF Demonstration (Kampong Speu, 2025)
- Delivered the Essential Health Package to 4 primary schools.
- Dentist team from the referral hospital completed the first school in June and start the second school in July and is on track to complete all 4 schools in 2025
- Essential materials were prepared and provided to the dentist team.
4. Training Activities
- Webinars: Conducted an SDF webinar with 30 referral hospital dentists.
- Capacity Building: Delivered refresher ToT training to Provincial Health Department and Operational District staff in Kampong Chhnang to support scaling up across 9 health centers.
- Upcoming Activities:
- Training for Dental Nurse School (Kampot Province, October).
- Fluoride Webinar for medical nurses and midwives (Kampong Chhnang).
5. Collaboration with BLCP (Data Collection)
- Two-week engagement with different teams, applying varying data collection protocols.
6. Challenges
- Extended school vacations compared to 2024, leading to delays in certain activities.
- Lack of cooperation from one school director regarding activity arrangements and treatment space.
- Difficulty engaging dental students to participate in Level 3 treatments.
- Recruitment needs: dental nurse, dental assistant, and SDF coordinator.
- Database updates remain incomplete due to pending uploads.
- Supply shortages of Ivoclar products, leading to interruptions in activities.
